Govt. calls for increased patrols this new years eve

Government has implored the Zambia Police Service to enhance both motorised and foot patrols aimed to safeguard lives and property this new year’s eve.

Chirundu District Commissioner Patrick Kasambila says with the availability of reliable transport of CDF Police vehicles, he expects Zambia police to patrol crime hotspots in the district to ensure that residents crossover into 2025 peacefully and incident free.

The Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) reports that Mr Kasambila appealed to residents to celebrate the crossover responsibly without putting their lives in grave danger.

The Chirundu District Commissioner also appealed to motorists, pedestrians and other road users to exercise maximum courtesy on the roads to avoid fatal accidents and ensure smooth crossover to 2025.

He said it is the sole responsibility of community members to take issues of personal security seriously and avoid endangering their lives and of others.

Mr Kasambila has regretted the fatal road traffic accident that occurred on the eve of Christmas Day that claimed a life  leaving many others injured and medical attention at Mtendere Mission General Hospital.

The District Commissioner has directed Chirundu Town Council (CTC) to enforce provisions and regulations of the Liquor Licenses in order to protect under age children from accessing alcohol.

He observed that in the past his office has been flooded with complaints from some community members alleging that some liquor traders were admitting under age in their premises which is against provisions and regulations of the Liquor Licenses.

The Chirundu District Commissioner asked parents and guardians to ensure the safety of their children.

Mr Kasambila has since wished Chirundu residents a happy and prosperous 2025 as they also make New Year’s resolutions.
