PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has participated in the virtual Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit Plus Mozambique that centred discussions on peaceful resolutions to the ongoing political and security situation, post elections in Mozambique.
Officially opening the Summit was Tanzanian President and Chair of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, Samia Suluhu Hassan, who expressed concern over the post election events in Mozambique.
Dr Hassan stated that the political and security situation which is characterised by protests has led to loss of life, injuries and distraction of property and infrastructure in that country.
Dr Hassan noted that the region cannot afford to remain idle when a fellow member state in going through a situation that directly impacts the social economic development of society.
She therefore explained the urgency of the meeting,to ensure a peaceful atmosphere is retained.
And SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi said that member states should offer solidarity to the people of Mozambique who count on every support to end the violent protest and allow that nation to retain normal operations.
Mr Magosi expressed confidence in the extraordinary meeting, saying that he is hopeful that the meeting will provide lasting solutions to address the political and security situation in Mozambique.
Speaking after a closed-door virtue meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe indicated that the summit provided an opportunity to look at possible interventions to assist Mozambique.
Mr Haimbe explained that SADC member states have an obligation to ensure peace, security and stability is maintained across the region.
