THE Zambia Correctional Service has commended Chingola Correctional Facility for positivity impacting the inmates and also for contributing to national food security.
Amidst the drought situation, Chingola Correctional Facility from its farm managed to produce over 1600 by 50 Kilogram bags of maize.
The facility also managed to sell 990 bags to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) during the last farming season.
ZCS Commissioner General Fredrick Chilukutu commended Chingola Correctional Facility for living up to the Zambia Correctional Service mandate to rehabilitate and reform inmates through various interventions.
Mr Chilukutu said this, in a speech read on his behalf by Director Human Resources Kapalu Luneta over the weekend, during the first ever Zambia Correctional Service Annual Ball for Chingola Correctional Facility.
“I wish to commend our team at Chingola Correctional Facility for their hard work and commitment to work in line with our mandate,” Mr Chilukutu said.
Mr Chilukutu also commended management at the facility for ensuring that said about 18 intimates set for General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations both at Grade 9 and 12 examinations.
He added that several intimates have continued to enroll in reformatory courses and others have also benefited from Constituency Development Funded (CDF) skills training courses.
Mr Chilukutu explained that these are in catering, hospitality management, carpentry, power electrical and metal fabrication among others.
He noted that the Chingola Correctional Facility management has been instrumental and engaging local stakeholders to enhance the welfare of intimates.
Mr Chilukutu indicated that management at the facility has also installed a borehole to improve water and sanitation provision, a thing he said should be commended.
And Chingola Correctional Facility Officer In-Charge Clatous Chibalani said all the successes scored by the facility have been as a result of committed and hardworking officers.
“This success has been a reality because of committed and hardworking officers,” he said.
Mr Chibalani said Chingola facility plans to increase production capacity at the facility farm in Chingola from 20 to about 30 hectares in order to effectively contribute to the national food security mandate.
