MINISTER of Green Economy and Environment Mike Mposha says tree planting plays a critical role in safeguarding against the effects of climate change which has severely impacted communities, agriculture, energy and water resources among others.
Mr Mposha states the reason why his Ministry is working hard to combat climate change through partnerships with various stakeholders of planting trees.
ZANIS reports that the Minister was speaking before a tree planting exercise of the 50 pine tree seedlings that were donated by Liquid Intelligence Technologies.
He explained that Kabulonga Boys School was selected because of the commitment from the learners who have chosen to participate in combating climate change.
Mr Mposha added that the exercise is part of enhancing a green environment in schools, an effort which requires all citizens to participate in planting and conserving trees.
“Planting and nurturing trees is not just an act of environmental protection, but also a symbol of hope for future generations,” Mr Mposha said.
He encouraged all to make it a habit of planting trees, taking care of them and continuing to understand their importance in addressing climate challenges.
Mr Mposha urged households to enhance the use of other sources of energy in an effort to reduce the pressure on dependence of hydro power.
The Minister hailed Liquid Intelligence Technologies for donating pine tree seedlings that will be planted across the country.
Liquid Intelligence Technologies Chief Executive Officer, Mark Townsend disclosed that the company has donated 1300 pine tree seedlings to the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment that will be planted countrywide.
Mr Townsend stressed the importance of stakeholders rendering support to the government and playing a part in protecting the environment through such activities.
Kabulonga Boys Secondary School Headteacher, Getrude Musiwa said the activity is an opportunity for the school to contribute towards the restoration of the environment.
And the learners commended the Minister for engaging directly with learners in the fight against climate change.
Daniel Mwanapabo said the gesture is a symbolic and practical action that shows profound leadership in mitigating the effects of climate change and safeguarding a sustainable future.
