Kanchibiya District Health Director, Arron Ngwevu, has praised government’s efforts in addressing the accommodation challenges faced by health workers in the area.
Dr. Ngwevu says that the construction of new staff houses using the CDF funds would significantly improve healthcare service delivery as medical staff will now be living nearer to their workplaces.
The Zambia News and Information Services reports that the Health Director said this in an interview.
“Accommodation has been a major challenge for our staff, especially in remote areas, he said”.
” With these new staff houses, we expect a significant improvement in the living conditions of our health workers, which will translate into better healthcare services for our communities,” Dr. Ngwevu explained.
He revealed that the other key projects nearing completion is a semi-detached staff house at Mala Kanchibiya Health Post in Luchembe Chiefdom, built at a cost of K908,366.00 under the 2024 CDF allocation whose project is currently at 95% complete.
Dr. Ngwevu noted that the lack of adequate housing in the area had previously hindered the recruitment and retention of qualified health personnel, but with ongoing construction projects, spearheaded by Kanchibiya Town Council, the situation was set to improve.
Meanwhile, Kanchibiya Town Council Secretary, Joseph Zulu earlier said the completion of a semi-detached staff house at Kapumfi Health Post which took six months to complete, was funded through the 2024 CDF at a cost of K871,196.46.
Mr. Zulu, expressed gratitude to the government and stakeholders for their support in completing the project.
“We are delighted to announce the completion of the semi-detached staff house at the Kapumfi Health Post. This development is a step toward enhancing the quality of healthcare services in our community,” Mr. Zulu said.
He emphasized that the new staff house would help retain qualified health workers, who are essential for delivering quality healthcare to the community.
