Smart Agriculture encouraged

Lusaka District Commissioner Rosa Zulu has urged farmers to take advantage of various farming initiatives established by the Ministry of Agriculture and other private partners in order to mitigate the impact of climate change  on agriculture production.

Ms. Zulu said farmers should consider smart agricultural practices to help enhance food security in the country.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS during the Lusaka District Agriculture Field Day Ms. Zulu emphasised on the need for farmers to embrace Agricultural diversification which includes fishing farming and crop production.

“Farmers should take advantage of these inclusive packages and demand for various services that will enable them enhance their agricultural activities and overcome climate changes effects” said Ms. Zulu

Meanwhile, Ministry of Agriculture Senior Horticultural Officer Esabell Sakala has called on various agricultural officers to encourage farmers to concentrate on climate smart Agriculture and all year production of crops.

“Farmers should set up irrigation equipment in their fields to ensure that agricultural production is all year round” said Ms. Sakala.

And Kalingalinga Zone 3 Lead Farmer Joyce Ngulube called on the public to venture into backyard gardening using empty sacks to grow their vegetables to feed their families.
