Banks urged to invest in cyber security

The Parliamentary Committee on Media and Technology has called on the financial sector to invest heavily in technology to enhance cyber security in the country.

Committee Chairperson, Raphael Mabenga says government is concerned with the rampant cyber-related financial crimes the country is recording.

Mr Mabenga, who is also Mulobezi Member of Parliament, says there is need for both commercial banks and mobile banking service providers to invest in cyber security.

The Committee chairperson was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Kabwe.

Mr Mabenga observed that scammers are using sophisticated technology to swindle members of the public through various banking platforms.

He said investing in modern technology will make it difficult for criminals to continue using mobile banking platforms to engage in dubious financial transactions.

The Committee, is on a tour of Central and Copperbelt Provinces to address issues of policies and regulations pertaining to information, communication technology in the financial sector.
