Chicken theft sends 18 year old man to early grave

An 18 year old man of Kamotoka village in Zambezi district, has committed suicide by hanging himself using a rope following allegations of chicken theft by his grandmother.

Crispin Mbilishi, was found dead on May 14, 2024, at around 17:00 hours. 

North-western Police Commanding Officer Dennis Moola confirmed the incident, which was initially reported to Zambezi Police on May 15, 2024.

According to Mr. Moola, the death of Mbilishi was discovered by his grandmother, Martha Samendia, who found him hanging from a tree after a dispute earlier in the day over alleged chicken theft.

The Police command has narrated that events leading up to Mbilishi’s death began with a dispute between Mbilishi and his grandmother, Ms. Samendia, over allegations of chicken theft.

He further revealed that later the deceased’s grandmother went to fetch firewood in the nearby bush and tragically found her grandson’s lifeless body hanging from a tree.

Upon police inspection, it was noted that there were no physical injuries on the body, but there was evidence of sperm discharge on the deceased’s body and a protruding tongue.

Police have ruled out foul play and have opened a Sudden and Unnatural Death file, advising relatives to proceed with burial arrangements.

Meanwhile, police have urged the community and anyone reeling from this devastating loss, anyone struggling with mental health issues to seek help and support.
