SAVE the Children International-Zambia has commended the Ministry of Education for successful implementation of an early childhood and care development project in Western Province called ‘Creating a Brighter Future for Our Children.’
Save The Children International- Zambia Director of Programmes and Operations, Grace Mwandapole thanked the Ministry of Education as well as the Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC) and other partners for the successful implementation of the project in the province particularly in Sioma and Shangombo districts.
Ms. Mwandapole was speaking during a close action for the three years project that has been running for the past three years called Creating a brighter future for children between the age of 0-8 for pre-primary learning.
“As we look at the progress that we have made and celebrate the success and document the learnings that have come through this project, I would want to appreciate the efforts of the Ministry of Education in giving Save the Children the opportunity to implement this important activity in Western province in the two districts where we did the interventions,” she said.
Ms Mwandapole disclosed that during the programme, Save the Children worked with 45 schools in both districts and managed to reach 3,000 children and 4,500 parents as well as conducting capacity building for teachers.
She said that the organisation also bought assisting devices for some learners enabling them to be integrated into the learning environment.
“We have been able to reach a target of 3,000 learners in this project and we were also able to work with 4,500 parents because we were also doing parenting sessions to prepare parents to work with these children because you know that parents are key in the development of their own children,” Ms Mwandapole explained.
And Western Province Principal Education Standards Officer, Richard Imasiku thanked Save the Children Zambia for good gestures extended in the education sector especially the inclusion of children with disabilities.
Zambia National Education Coalition Western Province Focal Point Person, Martin Inambao mentioned that the project has strengthened the education sector through accountability and interaction programmes in the two districts.
